New fund to provide sports prosthetics

Minister for Health, Vaughan Gething AM, has announced a new fund that will provide specialised sports prosthetics for children and young people in Wales.

A range of prosthetic equipment is already supplied by the NHS, but until now, specialised prosthetics, like running blades, have been unavailable.

The £417,000 a year will provide extra staff and resources at three centres in Cardiff, Swansea and Wrexham. Young people under twenty-five will be able to get assessed and provided with running and swimming equipment from April next year.
