Welsh Government launches Youth Work Strategy for 2019, 24/06/2019 [W]

The Interim Youth Work Board has published its Youth work strategy for Wales 2019.

The strategy was launched by the Minister for Education, Kirsty Williams AM, at an event at the Senedd for Youth Work Week on 24 June 2019.

The strategy has five key aims.

The first is that young people in Wales thrive. In this case, ‘thriving’ means that young people will “find their voice, formulate and convey their ideas, develop autonomy, build skills, make friends and, importantly, have fun” says the strategy.

The remaining aims are that:

  • youth work is accessible and inclusive;
  • paid and voluntary youth work staff have support during their careers and support to improve the ways they work;
  • people understand what youth work is and value it;
  • and youth work in Wales is organised so that it can continue for a long time.

Welsh Government, the Interim Youth Work Board and young people will help youth workers, the strategy says, to use the strategy in their work. How this will happen will be described in the youth work implementation plan.
